However this treatment is usually done as a last recourse because of the many side effects that they bring. Dermatologists usually keep a close tab on their patients that undergo this acne treatment to make sure that no bad effects like dry skin, nose bleeding, liver damage and in some instances affect the baby in pregnant women. Medications such as topical retinoids like tretinoin, adapelene, and tazarotene helps normalize the follicle life cycle. They are typically used in OTC creams and moisturizers. Salicylic acid and glycolic acid are chemical exfoliating agents used to exfoliate the skin. They can either be done manually, using an abrasive cloth or a liquid scrub, or chemically. This exfoliating agents encourage the peeling of the top layer of skin to prevent a build-up of dead skin cells which combine with skin oil to block pores. It also aids in unblocking already clogged pores. Whatever acne treatment you see fit for you it, it is still best to consult a dermatologist first. Even when cleaning your face, excessive cleaning may lead to excess drying and the production of more pore clogging oil, which in turn could cause more acne.
